Care and Repair Frequently Asked Questions

What type of jobs can I get done?

A huge variety! We do the smaller jobs that you cannot get a tradesman to do such as changing lightbulbs, putting up shelves, installing a grabrail, installing a smoke alarm or a carbon monoxide alarm.

What will using Care and Repair cost me?

The small jobs provided by the Care & Repair service are free of charge. Clients only pay for the materials required.

How do I arrange to have a job done?

Call your local Care and Repair Service (click here for contact details)

How long will it take to get to me?

We aim to reach every client in a maximum of 2 weeks however we prioritise more urgent jobs.

How many jobs can I get done under the Care and Repair Service?

As many as you want or need. However, we aim to spend no more than two hours per visit. We can do several jobs within that time frame and can call back another time if more work is required.

Are your volunteers trained and Garda vetted?

Yes, all of our volunteers are trained, Garda vetted and carry photographic ID. We also never call to a client without a prior appointment being made.

Do you do housework & shopping?

No, we don’t undertake housework such as hoovering, cleaning etc. or shopping, but we may be able to signpost you on to organisations or companies that can help you with this.

How do I know that the contractors you give me contact details for are reputable?

Before a contractor gets on our lists they agree to our Code of Conduct and we ensure that they have insurance cover. We ask clients for feedback about the contractors after they have had work done. If our clients aren’t happy with the work we remove the contractor from the list. Age Action maintains the trades referral list in good faith and we are not responsible for work carried out by tradesmen on our list. We recommend that you follow our guidelines when hiring anybody to work in your home.
