Are you interested in participating in the Santiago de Compostela (Camino) Walk and raising much needed funds for Age Action’s Care & Repair Programme?
The Way of St. James is a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in North Western Spain, where legend has it that the remains of the apostle, Saint James the Great, are buried.
This event takes place from 19th to 26th September 2013. Age Action is trying to raise funds to continue to provide our free Care & Repair Service to older people. This vital service enables older people to remain in their own homes for as long as they wish by offering a light DIY service such as changing light bulbs, tacking carpets, installing hand rails, painting, door locks and many more. The service also provides a home visitation service, quote check service and trades referral service. Full details of the programme are available here: http://www.ageaction.ie/care-and-repair/about-care-and-repair
The project is currently at risk as funding will cease later this year so we have embarked on an ambitious fundraising campaign to raise funds to ensure that we can continue to provide this vital service to older people.
The cost of the 7 night 8 day trip is €2,000 which included return flights, accommodation in 3* or 4*, travel insurance, breakfast, evening meal and a dedicated tour guide.
So if you are interested in finding out more about the trip and how you can help then please contact Lorraine Dorgan on lorraine.dorgan@ageaction.ie or 01 4756989 ar come along to one of our information evenings.

Afternoon Tea Parties: We have a series of parties coming up in 2013. The events are being held in Hotels around the country and will be a lot of fun. A great opportunity to meet old friends and to make some new ones. Everyone is welcome and all the venues are wheelchair friendly. A lovely traditional Afternoon Tea will be served and some of Irelands Legends will entertain. There might even be an old fashioned sing along!
The Big Knit is back!!! For the past few years innocent Big Knit supporters have knitted thousands of little woolly hats for our smoothies, with money from every bottle sold going towards supporting older people during the chilly winter months. Knitters from across the land send us their little knitted hats between now and the 30th November. We put them onto our bottles by hand and send them off to store. They're available to buy in shops across Ireland for a few weeks from January 2013, and for every hatted bottle sold, 25c is donated to Age Action. So far innocent have given us €60,000!
Over the years knitting groups, schools & loads of lovely people all over Ireland have generously knitted for the innocent Big Knit. We’d love people of all ages to get involved from novice knitters to champion clickers, so please spread the word within your local community. If you don’t fancy knitting yourself, wool and needles can be donated to Age Action to help others reach their target.
